PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN TRAINING
Patient Care Technicians are multi-skilled individuals who
provide basic patient care services under the supervision of
physicians, nurses and other medical professionals. PCT’s are
typically employed in hospitals, nursing homes, physician’s offices,
clinics, assisted living facilities and in-home health care settings
to provide basic nursing care services to infants, children and
adults.
With the overall ageing of the U.S. population, there is a growing
need for qualified patient care personnel across the nation to
assist the elderly and infirm with custodial care and rehabilitation
services. Patient Care Technicians employed in assisted living
facilities or nursing homes often have more interaction with
residents than other healthcare staff members. This position as
principal caregiver can often lead to lasting friendships that can
have a significant impact on a resident’s wellbeing, mood and
attitude.
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) program at PCI Health Training
Center prepares students for an entry-level position as a patient
care technician. Students will learn necessary skills and medical
terminology and receive hands-on clinical experience from our
knowledgeable, experienced nurses and medical professionals. The PCT
program will prepare you to provide direct patient care to
individuals in a variety of healthcare facilities and prepare you to
pursue the certified nurse assistant designation.

Nature of the Work
Job responsibilities may include routine nursing aid tasks
related to patient care, such as taking and recording vital
signs, assisting with personal hygiene and bathing, changing
hospital beds, moving patients and other assistance that is
require to keep patients rooms tidy. Depending on the nature of
the facility that the PCT is employed, clinical duties may
include collecting blood, performing EKGs, assisting with
treatments and other clinical tasks.
Working Conditions
Patient Care Technicians work under the supervision of
doctors, nursing or other medical staff in well-lighted, clean
environments such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted
living facilities. PCTs will constantly interact with patients,
medical personnel, patient’s families and other people in the
organization. PCTs are multi-skilled individuals and may be
called on to handle several job responsibilities at once.
